DB or not DB? (Aston Martin DB7)

The Aston Martin DB7 was no doubt a great looking car and the sales figures during it’s production run from 1994 to 2003 show that it was commercially successful. However, built on the old XJS platform meant it was never as good to drive as it’s looks suggested, plus the early supercharged straight six engines didn’t quite deliver on the performance side either. Now you can pick up a DB7 for as little as 17k we ask the question, ‘Should you buy one?’  First instinct tells you the answer is ‘no’.  The running costs are astronomical, the cabin is cramped and you really feel the size and weight of the car. But, for the money, there aren’t many alternatives that offer this level of pedigree, refinement and sheer head-turning-ability!  OK so sceptics may argue that it’s just a jumped up XK8 but that’s not exactly an insult and the difference in price now makes it a realistic option (especially if you really want a manual). And, are we not forgetting that this is an Aston Martin?  The name alone is enough to warrant forking out, not to mention the sense of occasion you get every time you go for a drive and when you arrive you’ll always give it a backwards glance. So, despite its mild shortcomings and the fact it doesn’t really make financial sense, the DB7 is still a sensational car and its timeless image will make it a future classic.  Personally I think it’s the next E-type and one day you may see a return on your investment but, if I’m wrong, I’m sure you won’t be disappointed!
