Jaguar XK8 – Driving, what’s it like?

To get a break from the rust, seized bolts and cut hands doing my Lotus Esprit restoration I took my Jaguar XK8 out for a drive. It occurred to me that people might be interested in how I think this car drives and what its like in the cabin etc if people were thinking of buying one or indeed if people share my thoughts and experiences in their own XK8. Hope you enjoy and thanks for watching!

Lotus Esprit S2 – Interior Strip : Part 3

Some more progress with the Lotus Esprit S2 this week focusing on mainly getting the interior trim out but for a change of scenery I have a little look inside the front ‘boot’ area of the car to see what we need to remove from there. I got the clutch master cylinder out after wrangling with the red clutch pipe, ended up cutting it but there is enough slack to re-join if required although I’ve no idea if the pipe is worth saving, probably best to replace if it’s already giving me grief!

Lotus Esprit S2 – It’s Home!

Managed to get my Lotus Esprit S2 restoration project to my house recently so I can try to make a bit more progress on it. The move went well with help from some wheel jacks to reposition the car as required without turning the almost-stuck wheels. Managed to get a little bit done at the weekend too which went ok and really cannot wait to get on with it! Apologies for the noise at the beginning of the video, maybe I should change my name to ‘Russel’……

Jaguar XK8 vs MGB GT : Battle of the GTs

A back to back comparison of the Jaguar XK8 and the MGB GT. These are two very different cars from different times but both promise ‘Grand Touring’ capability and cost about the same these days. They’re both charming in their own way and both suffer rust issues but in this video I talk a bit about their differences and why you might consider one over the other.

Lotus Esprit S2 – Quick Update

Super short video on my Lotus Esprit S2 giving a bit of an update with what I’m doing with it, essentially I’m bringing it home so I can continue to work on it even with lockdowns going on. I also talk a little bit about an alternative to the digital clock that I might consider in the future, something of a James Bond gadget for the interior!

MGB GT – Weber 45 DCOE Idle Tuning

Quick video showing how I tuned the idle mixture settings on the Weber 45 DCOE installed in my MGB GT. I used a Gunson Colortune kit to set the correct mixture rather than by ‘ear’ but I broadly followed the instructions in this article as well as the instructions that came with the kit: http://www.redlineweber.com/html/Tech/dcoe_adjustment_layout_typical_i.htm

Jaguar XK8 – Found the Issue! Damp Inertia Switch

So! I have found what has caused my Jaguar XK8 to stop working…. a damp inertia switch! I have a leak somewhere that I’m yet to track down but I wouldn’t have even thought of the inertia switch if it wasn’t for the helpful guide on John’s ‘To The Garage’ website known as the XK8 Bible: https://www.tothegarage.co.uk/ so many thanks to John and to Gary (the author) for that. As for tracking down the leak there is a jaguar bulletin that might prove useful here for anyone with similar ailments: http://www.jagrepair.com/images/TSB/TSB2/XJ_XK/501Body/501-53%20Water%20Entry%20Into%20Vehicle.pdf To finish up I take the XK8 for a bit of drive to the garden centre and struggle to arrange some logs in the boot!

Jaguar XK8 – Oh No! It Broke!

It’s happened! My Jaguar XK8 has stopped working! In this video I had planned to give a brief update on the car and take it for a run but unfortunately it won’t start…. looks to be related to the fuel pressure and the inertia switch, I have a couple of theories on what’s going on but I’ll bring an update to you in the near future once I’ve figured out what’s potentially causing the issue.

MGB GT – Some Fixes, More Issues

A quick update on the MGB GT and some fixes I’ve managed to make, as always doing one job you notice another so there’s some more jobs still to do which I’ll film in a subsequent video. A bit of a drive at the end to make sure everything was holding together (and to buy firewood actually, practical classic the BGT!)
